TP-Link Archer C7 v Asus RT-AC58U

Hi guys,

Looking to get a new device for my parents and I was wondering which device would perform better (range and throughput) between the Archer C7 and RT-AC58U. They have a 500 Mbps connection so hardware acc. is a must.

Many thanks

Hi,

Judging by the wiki pages, assuming this is accurate:

  • Archer has a slightly better CPU, better OpenWRT support, and 2x USB 2.0 ports
  • Asus RT has a lot more Flash (128 MB vs 16 MB) and 1x USB 3.0 port

Jure

Between these two routers, the Asus RT-AC58U will be vastly faster - but 500 MBit/s is a very fast and demanding WAN connection. mvebu or mt7621 are probably better suited to cope (both can do almost 1 GBit/s line speed).

Why would the Asus be vastly faster, if it has a lessor CPU than a C7?

A 710 MHz ARMv7 CPU is faster than a 720 MHz MIPS single core.
