Optimized build for the D-Link DIR-860L

thats why i am using openwrt, 5Ghz has took a huge improvement this last version, waiting for the last tx power fix and it will be perfect, 2,4Ghz has been left back, i can understand that its an older technology and not many people are willing to work on it, but it is still present in many devices (i am using CPE AP which work on 2.4GHZ because it has better coverage) , so it must be improved too! i have seen that new driver is comming and will be used in this special build of Bartvz, waiting for it to see if it has a fix

I also need decent 2.4GHz performance because of the better range compared to 5GHz...
For me it kinda sounds like that if 5GHz gets an improvement 2.4GHz is automatically getting worse.

Hopefully they will improve 2.4GHz and fix the TX power Bug/Problem. Otherwise im very happy with my DIR860L devices!!
I already own four of these lovely little boxes because i was hunting on ebay for a few weeks and I couldn't resist to buy some for the price of under 20 eur!!

Any news on the new test build? My new bought router has arrived and I am ready for testing.

The official snapshot builds are pretty much the same except for the fact that all packages are not included by default.

Took me a while but a new build is up. Running stable for the last two days. WiFi on both bands is a better than on previous builds.

Many thanks for the new version! I am installing it right now :slightly_smiling_face:.
I have a question regarding the future development, is MT7621 supporting overclock?

Once 100% stabilized our openwrt builds, it would be interesting to make some tests and full bandwidth benchmarks with an overclocked build to check for speed improvements.
I would be glad to help with benchmarks and chip temperature tests (with software control or also with an external sensor put directly on the chip).

Thank you for the latest build.

I have issues connecting external storage devices (ext4). Firstly i cannot directly install kmod-fs-ext4 using opkg (kernel dependency errors) and after force installing I am gettng errors in dmesg "Unknown symbol posix_acl_chmod (err 0)". I believe ext4 support was added to these builds back in Jan. Any help in getting external storage working would be appreciated.

@Bartvz
Thanks for adding ebtables to the latest build! I'll try this build asap...

I haven't read anything about overclocking but it should be possible with a bootloader modification. I remember overclocking my TP-Link WNDR4300.
You might need to add some ceramic heatsinks if there is no heatsink on the chipset or if there is a heatsink, add a beafier one.

Hmm, seems I forgot to add the module when redoing my build environment. It will be included in the next build. Thanks for reporting!

@All, new build uploaded with the filesystem modules now included. Thanks for reporting @TPLinkUser! Also, compiled with GCC8 and cake now supports tc-classes.

having it running for 20 minutes seems ok, thanks!

I have the latest build (r7540) running since a few hours and everything seems to be ok!
Just the TX-Power problem is still not fixed, im on Channel 100 where 27dBm is allowed but the TX-Power output is only @20dBm...

So far the throughput @5GHz is very stable and consistent:

What are those tc-classes about ? I haven't found any new settings under SQM...

Since r7493, the 3 Xiaomi phones in our household have poor wireless performance. Webpages load in 40 sec, Youtube buffers minutes to start the video, etc. The notebooks on the other hand perform better that before.

no reported issues with wife's redmi 4x, will run speedtest when possible

After ~4 days i can say that the latest build is running quite well for me!
Haven't encountered any issues so far...

I reset the router, as other don't have problems with the wifi. And the router would no longer save the settings. After each reboot, it would reset too.

So I reloaded the latest build using the recovery, and the same problems. After reboot or power loss, the device would reset. I have gone back to the r7274 build as that is the last build that worked for me.

I find this quite strange as i don't experience these problems with the latest build.
And btw i always flash new builds via recovery to avoid any problems...

Did you setup your router from the scratch after flashing the latest build or do you use some sort of a backup?

Set up from scratch.
