[GCC 7.2 BUILD] Optimized TP-Link Archer C7 V2 AC1750 LEDE Firmware

if i new how to compile the gcc 8 with the latest trunk id have done so, im trying it, but im not that advanced at the moment, so im taking little baby steps in cross compilation, im a noob!! im even trying to cross compile 4.13 at the moment, but again not knowing a lot is gonna keep me on a slow track to success.

:frowning: I tought that the patching process automagically puts the new file in the correct folder, my bad. sorry :wink:

i like seeing development clashes and cawk swinging philanthropists go at it lol, amusing stuff guys!!

root@LEDE:/etc# sysctl -p
kernel.panic = 3
sysctl: error: 'kernel.core_pattern' is an unknown key

kernel's parameter length limit is too small to fix this bug. set /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern to:

echo really_long_long_long_long_long_long_long_long_corename_s%s_c%c_p%p_u%u_g%g_t%t_h%h_e%e >/tmp/%e.%t.%p.%s.core

idk will that help?

NOPE DIDNT HELP!

what was your custom kernel core set to again in /tmp/blah.core?

First build complete!
Everything OK.
Thanks @r00t

Haha unfortunately it doesn't :smiley: Glad you figured it out!

Thanks! No reason to worry though as long as you don't want to do core dumps which normally you shouldn't need to.

Checking Kernel Log I've found that:

nf_conntrack: default automatic helper assignment has been turned off for security reasons and CT-based firewall rule not found. Use the iptables CT target to attach helpers instead.

In kernel 4.4.X I had never seen that entry, any idea what it is?

BTW everything is working fine.

Conntrack helpers aren't being loaded automatically anymore and this is just a notice about that. Once you add a rule with -m conntrack --ctstate they will get loaded. So this isn't an issue - just some changes caused by the newer kernel. :slightly_smiling_face:

Glad to hear that!

I've been testing SQM ON + TCP BBR and both seems to be fully compatible.

Is curios because I get more upload speed than download speed while SQM is ON (just a little not a big difference), when SQM is switched OFF then I get the same speed in download/upload (as it must be, my internet is symmetric). Really curious.

Tested in DSL Reports:

SQM OFF - Bufferbloat to B
SQM ON - Bufferbloat to A+

How would you rate the reliability of the kernel 4.9 on the Archer C7v2? I am using my own build, it is a fairly clean LEDE build, no special patches, no fastpath or other fancy stuff. Some extra packages included, mainly Strongswan which works perfectly fine. I compiled it using GCC 6. My problems are: router reboots regularly when doing nothing special (even when only using wired devices), wifi runs sluggishly or stops working completely.

I just reported https://bugs.lede-project.org/index.php?do=details&task_id=1156 for it, I cannot get the router to run as reliable as it did with kernel 4.4. I have no crash logs, no serial port attached.

What are your experiences so far?

The latest release of this build runs as stable as the previous kernel 4.4 builds for me so far. And I didn't get any crash or performance issue reports here or on Github, so I think it's safe to assume that the issues you're describing don't exist with this build.

@avbohemen
I've experienced no reboots using the 4.9 kernel, the only problem is with the 5Ghz band but seems that is a known bug, a workaround is to manually select a working channel and that's it.

About SQM and Fast Path: they are mutually exclusive, if I try to use SQM to reduce bufferbloat my connection speed is reduced considerably, almost 20%. So I prefer to not use SQM.

Btw, I'm using a TL-WDR7500 v5, replaced the 8MB flash with a 16MB chip and put the Archer C7 V2 uboot.

Hi,

Sorry for being dumb, very new on using a 3rd party firmware for my router. i would just like to ask, how can i install samba36-server? I can't see it when I opkg update. Thanks

nvm got it working! :grinning:

i've experienced problems with python modules importing using the newest 4.9 and 7.2, also like clio said the issue with the channels. Other than that bbr works i guess.?

@r00t, this build is the best custom firmware I have seen on archer C7 and I've tried them all stock, dd-wrt, gargoyle, openwrt, LEDE; I get better 5ghz speeds now than on the stock firmware

although I wanted to abort LEDE because some users here pointed me in the wrong direction to some useless firmwares that had many bugs, I am glad I didn't and have tried this last build of yours

BIG thanks for your work, absolutelly BRILLIANT !

Hi @r00t

I see your .config file doesn't have CONFIG_TCP_CONG_BBR=y. Are you sure BBR working ? How to check if BBR work ?

@leeandy
cat /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_congestion_control

:wink:

Thanks @cliobrando, that's helped.
